UPDATE: Brown County SP overnight facilities remain closed; limited day use continues
Start Date: 6/25/2019 All Day
End Date: 6/25/2019
Event Description:
At Brown County State Park, the campgrounds, cabins and Abe Martin Lodge remain closed through at least Wednesday, June 26. Campers and lodge guests with reservations have been contacted directly.

The park will continue with only day use activities and services through Wednesday, June 26. This includes such activities as sight-seeing, fishing, picnicking, hiking on open trails, visiting the nature center, and enjoying guided horseback rides at the saddle barn.  Gates are staffed, but no admission is charged.

Abe Martin Lodge, pools, and drinking fountains remain closed. Modern restrooms are closed, but vault toilets are available. Mountain bike, horse and some hiking trails remain closed.

Ogle Lake still has an unprecedented amount of sediment from torrential rains over the last couple of weeks, but park staff are working around the clock with DNR’s Division of Engineering, consultants and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to produce enough potable water to reopen the lodge and campground. Two mobile, pre-treatment units have been installed to filter the water before it reaches the park’s treatment plant. Water production capacity, although not yet at the normal rate needed for all services, has increased. Staff have been able to begin flushing water lines across the park, and the required water sampling is in process.

Closure of overnight facilities beyond Wednesday night will be evaluated as we watch lake conditions and rainfall, continue working to increase production capacity, and as we receive water test results. Inn guests and campers will be notified as soon as possible after we confirm that potable water will be available.

Opportunities are being provided for campers and inn guests who prefer to do so to transfer to other state park campgrounds or inns where availability exists.
