Monarch Programs
Summer 2020

All monarch programs will be held on Saturdays at the historic Stanley Schoolhouse.  For a more detailed description of the programs please visit us on Facebook at fb.com/chainolakessp or on the DNR Calendar, calendar.dnr.in.gov

July 11, 11 am

Magnificent Monarchs: These insects are amazing! Metamorphosis, migration, milkweed, diapause.  We hope to have eggs and instars for you to see.  Come to the interpretive area outside the historic Stanley Schoolhouse for this family friendly program. (1 hour)

July 18, 4 pm

Monarch Parenting 101: You can help monarchs on their road to recovery.  Be a monarch foster parent.  This program will teach you the basics on collecting, raising, and releasing these beautiful butterflies.  Come to the interpretive area outside the historic Stanley Schoolhouse for this family friendly program. (1 hour)

July 25, 4 pm
The Monarchs are back! Bring a lawn chair or blanket to this family friendly event outside of the historic Stanley Schoolhouse for a discussion about this interesting insect.  We will then cross the street to our prairie to look for eggs and instars.  Fun for the whole family. (1 hour)

August 1, 11 am

Monarch Parenting 101. August 14 1-4 pm, August 15 10 am- 4 pm

Join us for this two day festival celebrating the amazing monarch!  In addition to several informative presentations, you can take part in these activities:

-Coloring and craft table-Butterfly tagging
-Pollinator gardens

August 22, 11 am

August 29, 4 pm

Monarch Migration: Monarchs are beginning to migrate south to Mexico for the winter.  What makes them do this?  How do they know when?  Why has the monarch population declined so much?  Join us for a great discussion. (1 hour)
