[DNR] Celebrate solstice with Miami Nation of Indiana at Mounds SP, June 21

Event Description:
Visitors to Mounds State Park on the summer solstice, June 21, can celebrate the longest day of the year with a sacred drum ceremony by the Miami Nation of Indiana and other family activities.

The drum ceremony will happen on the Great Mound and run from 7 to 9 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to attend.

During that same time, naturalists will have activities for children and adults beside the ancient mounds complex. Visitors can throw atlatls, a prehistoric hunting tool believed to have been used by the Adena Hopewell culture that built the mounds. Crafts will include clay pinch pots, and the naturalists will host a wild edibles game too.

The event is free, though standard park entrance fees of $5 per in-state vehicle and $7 per out-of-state vehicle apply.
