Limestone Weekend, Spring Mill State Park

Event Description:
Lawrence County is the limestone capitol of the world! Join us this weekend to celebrate and learn more about this important mineral.

Friday:
11am-5pm:  Quake Cottage! -The Indiana Geologic Survey is bringing their mobile unit called Quake Cottage that lets you experience an earthquake.  Lakeview Activity Center parking lot  

Saturday:

9am-4pm:  Limestone Carving –Stop by Artisan Experience located at Twin Caves parking lot to find out how you can take a piece of carved limestone home.

10am-2pm:  Topography Artwork – Lisa Walsh will be demonstrates her unique line of jewelry inspired by the topography of Spring Mill State Park.  Lakeview Activity Center

10:30am-12:30pm:  FREE Adult Canvas Painting - Prior registration required. Under instruction of Brown County Artist Anabel Hopkins, paint your choice of flowers in the garden or log buildings, all at the Pioneer village site.  RSVP to Anabel Hopkins at anahoppy47448@gmail.com

11am:  Caves, Kilns, and Buildings Hike:  Meet outside the Village Grist Mill alongside the saw mill.  Join us to hear about the role Limestone has played in our park as well as our community.  We will also take a look at some of its uses, and shaping of our landscape.

1pm:   Hiking Rocks - Lawrence County is famous for its limestone. Meet Aaron in the village parking lot for a short hike on Trail 4 and learn all about Indiana’s famed stone. Moderate Hike.  30-45 Minutes

Sunday:

10am:  Lovely Limestone! -  What is it?  How does it form?  How is it used and how does it change?  Meet at the Lakeview Activity Center Program Room.

1pm:  Donaldson Cave Hike – Join our Volunteer, Anthony, for a hike to Donaldson Cave.  Learn about the limestone that most caves are made of.  Meet at the Inn front patio.
