7 a.m. Birding Walk - Hosted by The Nature Conservancy
Learn the art of birdwatching while searching for rare birds like Henslow’s sparrows and grasshopper sparrows. No experience required.

Willow Slough Fish & Wildlife Area

8 a.m. Bike Rides - Hosted by the Newton County Park Board
Outdoor enthusiasts grab your bicycles and join one of the rides on Newton County's scenic rural roads. This ride offers two routes (14 miles and 26 miles), both routes will take cyclists through portions of Willow Slough FWA and the Kankakee Sands Nature Conservancy. This activity is open to all ages. Registration forms can be found at http://newtoncountyparkboard.com, register by May 20th to receive a species ride t-shirt.

9 a.m. to Noon Intro to Fishing - Hosted by Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife
Learn to fish with the help of Division of Fish and Wildlife staff. Participants will learn how to assemble a rod and cast, bait a hook, and take fish off the hook. All equipment will be provided. This activity is open to all ages.

Noon - 4:00 p.m. Reptile & Amphibian Sampling - Hosted by Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife
Get your hands dirty while learning about the frogs, turtles, and other reptiles and amphibians that call LaSalle’s wetlands home from the Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife’s state herpetologist. During this activity participants will wade in the water and learn how to catch frogs and turtles. This activity is open to all ages.

Conrad Station Trailhead
Located ½ mile east of the intersection of US 41 and CR 725 N, at the bend in the road.

4:30 p.m. Nature Hike at Conrad Station Savanna - Hosted by the Friends of the Sands
Enjoy a 1.6 mile nature hike along a mowed path through the ghost-town of Conrad Station Savanna. Once a thriving town created by Ms. Jennie Conrad, it is now a high quality savanna with red-headed woodpeckers and a lovely show of spring wildflowers. This activity is open to all ages.

Bison Viewing Area at Kankakee Sands Nature Conservancy

7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Bison Talks - Hosted by The Nature Conservancy
Come see the bison herd and talk with a naturalist about bison and the prairie. There will be many flowers, birds and butterflies to see as well. Talks continue throughout the day. This activity is open to all ages.
The bison viewing area can be reached by using the gravel entrance off of CR 400 W, located ½ mile south of intersection CR 400 W and CR 400 N, Morocco, IN.

6 – 11 a.m. Fishing Derby - Hosted by the Newton County Park Board
Celebrate Indiana’s Free Fishing Weekend by participating in our fishing derby. This free event will feature prizes for winners of each age group. Participants MUST register at the Willow Slough Headquarters to be eligible to win. Registrants are able to weigh up to five fish and all fish MUST be weighed in by 11 a.m. All state and property rules and regulations apply. This activity is open to all ages.

9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Intro to Paddling - Hosted by NICHES Land Trust
This activity is offered at two times 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Each group will spend an hour on the water learning how to paddle a canoe. This activity is open to all ages. RSVP to by contacting Sam Cody at sam@nicheslandtrust.org or 765-423-1605.

Willow Slough Shooting Complex

Noon – 4 p.m. Intro to Shooting Sports - Hosted by Indiana Conservation Officers
Learn to shoot pistols, rifles, or shotguns with DNR Law Enforcement officers. Participants will learn how to safely handle and shoot firearms. This activity is open to all ages and all equipment will be provided.

LaSalle Fish & Wildlife Area

7 a.m. Birding Hike - Hosted by Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife
Birders will start their morning hike at LaSalle FWA. Participants will hike through a variety of habitat types consisting of uplands, woodlands, and wetlands. Hikers will have the opportunity to view a large array of birds that all call LaSalle FWA home. Please bring binoculars, cameras, or spotting scopes for a more enjoyable experience. This activity is open to all ages.

10 a.m. Everglades of the North Paddle - Hosted by NW Indiana Paddling Association
Paddle the Kankakee River and experience the Everglades of the North. This 5-mile paddle will kick off from the White Oak Bayou boat ramp and finish at the State Line Bayou. Explore the river and wetland complexes that call LaSalle FWA home. Registration starts at 10 a.m. at the boat ramp. Participants are encouraged to bring their own canoe or kayak but loaner boats will be available.
Directions to White Oak Bayou boat ramp: From US 41, head west at the entrance of LaSalle FWA and the ramp is across the street from Sumava Resorts.
