Trail leader honored; state celebrates National Trails Day, June 3
Start Date: 5/31/2017
Event Description:
A Fishers mountain biker has earned recognition from a national trails organization for more than a decade of volunteer work.

American Trails named Paul Arlinghaus “Outstanding Trail Leader” for Indiana.

Arlinghaus has helped design, build and maintain more than 100 miles of mountain bike trails in Indiana through the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association. Arlinghaus also manages trail grants, works with land managers, advocates for access, trains other volunteers and helps grow mountain biking in Indiana.

Arlinghaus has been a driving force in developing Brown County into a premiere mountain biking destination. He accepted his award at the International Trails Symposium on May 7 in Dayton, Ohio.

National Trails Day on June 3 is a chance for others to catch the volunteering spirit and celebrate the benefits that trails provide. Gov. Eric Holcomb has issued an official Trails Day proclamation. Special events will take place across the state with organizations and agencies that promote, support and advocate for trails.

Events include ribbon-cutting ceremonies, hikes, runs, bike rides, scavenger hunts, trail workdays, fundraisers and recognizing trail volunteers.

Events of note include the 25th annual B &O Bicycle Tour in Brownsburg; Cardinal Greenways National Trails Day 5k, Clean Up and Picnic in Muncie; Pennsyville Party in New Palestine; Prairie Trails Club 5k Color Run in North Judson; and a trail workday at Fort Harrison State Park with REI & the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association.
