Archaeology sites program at Fort Harrison SP tomorrow
Start Date: 4/16/2019
Event Description:

As part of three Historic Preservation Fund grants, Ball State University archaeologists explored the Calvert Porter Woods Nature Preserve (Montgomery County), Wilbur Wright Fish & Wildlife Area (Henry County), and Versailles State Park (Ripley County) last summer.

A chance to learn about their findings, in person, will be offered at Fort Harrison State Park’s visitor center in Indianapolis on Wednesday, April 17, at 3:30 p.m.
The findings of the Applied Anthropology Laboratories, Department of Anthropology, Ball State University greatly improved the knowledge of the Native and European history in the three counties.

The presentation will review project goals, objectives, and results of this year’s surveys and will concentrate on what the artifacts reveal about the human occupation of Indiana during different time periods. Archaeologists will also have artifacts from the surveys available to view and will show a video that highlights their field and lab methods.

The presentation is free but the usual gate fee for park entrance of $7 per in-state vehicle and $9 per out-of-state vehicle will be charged.

The projects were funded in part by grants from the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund administered by the Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology.

Fort Harrison State Park ( is at 5753 Glenn Road, Indianapolis, 46216.
