Talk on Wea Plains on Saturday at historical society
Start Date: 3/22/2017
Event Description:
The natural history of the Wea Plains is the subject of a talk to be presented by DNR Division of Nature Preserves assistant director Thomas Swinford on Saturday in Lafayette.

The Wea Plains is a former large grassland in Tippecanoe County. The lecture at the Tippecanoe County Historical Society Community Center will run from 2 to 3 p.m.

Using the tools of ecology, geology, archaeology, history, early land surveyor's notes, and state-of-the-art GIS mapping, Swinford will reconstruct the enigmatic Wea Plains. Swinford’s talk also will explore how humans modified the plains from the Ice Age to historic times. Questions will be welcome after the presentation.

The program is free and open to the public. The TCHS Community Center and Museum (formerly the Masonic Lodge) is at 522 Columbia Street.
