Eagles in Flight Weekend, Turkey Run State Park

Event Description:
Join Turkey Run State Park January 24-26 for a weekend all about birds. Have fun viewing and learning about bald eagles and other raptors. Weekend activities include live birds of prey programs, multiple eagle viewing tours, owl prowl night hikes, and songbird banding led by a researcher. There is no preregistration for programs and food is not included.

A silent and live auction will be held by the Friends of Turkey Run and Shades State Park during the weekend. 100% of the proceeds go toward Turkey Run and Shades State Parks.

Overnight lodging is available at the Turkey Run Inn. Contact the Reservation Center at 1-877-LODGES1 or IndianaInns.com, and reference Group Code 0124EF.

Entire Weekend Program Admission:
$30 2 Adults + 2 Children (13 and under), $5 for each additional child
$15 13 and up
$10 4-13
Free 4 and under

Standard park entrance fees of $7 per in-state vehicle and $9 per out-of-state vehicle may apply.

Friday, January 24
7:30pm: Beginning Remarks
Introduction to the weekend and all the upcoming activities.

7:30pm: Silent Auction Begins
Friends of Turkey Run & Shades State Parks will have items for bid in the Strauss Room until Saturday evening.

8:00pm: The Other Birds of Prey
Meet live birds and hear their stories. You might even see their wild cousins while traveling in winter.
9:00pm: Conservation Connection
Hear what a few nature based organizations are doing in Indiana and how to support them. (Cash Bar)

Saturday, January 25
6:45am: Morning Roost #1
Follow the DNR van to a local eagle roost site. Caravan leaves at 6:45 sharp from the Inn Parking Lot.

7:00–10:00am: Breakfast Buffet
Inn Dining Room (on your own)

9:00–11:00am: Bird Banding
Get the chance to see songbirds up close at the Nature Center. Find out how researchers gather avian data.

9:00am–2:00pm: Eagle Field Trips
Visit local eagle nest sites and hunting locations using your
provided map. Naturalists will be at nest sites with spotting scopes to use. Stop in the Lusk Room for map assistance and suggestions.

11:30am–1:00pm: Lunch Buffet
Inn Dining Room (on your own)

12:30pm–3:00pm: Eagle Painting
Visit with Mary Ketchmark, who will be creating an eagle painting. Ask her about her passion for eagles and art. Her painting will be sold during the live auction.

3:00–5:00pm: Live Bald Eagle Program & Friends Group Live Auction
Meet Patoka Lake’s bald eagle and learn how these birds have made a comeback. Bid in the Friends live auction for high quality items. A complete Eagles in Flight Weekend package for 2021 including lodging and programs, will be available for bid. 100% of proceeds go to the Friends of Turkey Run & Shades State Parks. Cash & Checks only.

5:00–7:30pm: Dinner Buffet

6:00pm: Silent Auction Ends
Final bids will be collected and winners can pay.

8:00pm: Indiana Owls
Meet some of the most common owls in Indiana and find out what makes them different than other birds of prey.

9:00pm: Owl Prowl
Attempt to see and hear Turkey Run’s wild owls. Follow a Naturalist into the dark in search of our silent hunters.

Sunday, January 26
