Summer Solstice Celebration, Mounds State Park

Event Description:
Event starts with a morning bird walk led by the Robert Cooper Audubon Society. This walk meets at the Nature Center at 9 a.m. and the hike may involve stairs and rough terrain.

At 11 a.m., the Miami Nation of Indiana will be holding their council meeting at the Woodland Shelter. Visitors to the park are welcome to join. Bring a camp chair. After their council meeting, the Miami Nation of Indiana will be around all day conducting activities and demonstrations of traditional arts.

At 4 p.m., join the park naturalist at the Nature Center for a "Mystery of the Mounds Hike."Participants will travel to the main mound complex and discuss the mounds, how they were made, more about the people that made them and how we think they were used.

At 8 p.m., members of the Miami Nation of Indiana will drum the sun down at the Circle Mounds. Please bring a camp chair or blanket and bug spray.
