Cemetery History Series: Friendship, Monroe Lake

Cemetery History Series: Friendship at 1:30 p.m.

Sign up by selecting "register" above.
Preregistration required by November 5.
Free, but limited to 20 people.
Recommended for ages 16 and up.
Location: Meet at Hunter Check Station on Kent Road

Residents of the Salt Creek valley shaped the history of the area that would become Monroe Lake and the Hoosier National Forest. Explore the stories of some of these people and their settlements as we visiting old cemeteries that still dot the land.

Friendship Tour: From our meeting location, we’ll carpool to and tour the Friendship Cemetery, whose oldest documented burial occurred in 1850. We’ll also discuss the Friendship School, which was located just up the hill. And then we’ll head over to the ruins of the Friendship Baptist Church, which was associated with both the cemetery and school. 2 hours 30 minutes
