Event Description:
Untitled Document Learn to Hunt workshops are species-specific workshops tailored to new hunters or those interested in learning about hunting. This event is for new adult hunters with no more than one year of pheasant hunting experience. This workshop is conducted in cooperation with National Wild Turkey Federation.

The Learn to Hunt: Pheasant workshop series consists of two sessions: combined classroom and shooting range practice, and a mentored pheasant hunt. Participants must complete the combined classroom and range session to be eligible for the mentored pheasant hunt session. The hunt will take place immediately following the classroom and shooting range session. Hunt session availability is dependent on mentor availability. Participants must possess a valid Indiana hunting license and game bird habitat stamp before the hunt session.

During the classroom portion, participants will become familiar with:
  • Indiana pheasant hunting laws
  • Basic pheasant biology
  • Methods and strategies for hunting pheasant
  • Recommend equipment for pheasant hunting
  • Where to hunt pheasant
  • Recipes for cooking pheasant
During the range portion, participants will become familiar with:
  • Basic firearms safety (both at the range and in the field)
  • Shooting techniques (stance and form)
  • Shot placement (sighting or patterning to know where to aim)
  • Basic firearm maintenance (cleaning and care at the range and in the field)
All firearms and ammunition are provided for the range portion.

A portion of this workshop will be outside in grassy areas. Please dress accordingly; long pants and close-toed footwear are recommended.

The fee to participate in this workshop is $10, which will be collected after your registration request is approved. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Pre-registration is required to participate in this workshop due to limited space. Register by clicking the red “register” icon at the top right.
