Plant Healers and Medicinal Trees, Deam Lake SRA
Start Date: 8/28/2021Start Time: 11:00 AM
This event recurs on a custom schedule.   Click here to see the series dates.
Event Description:
Before Charles C Deam became Indiana's First State Forester, he owned a "Drug Store" in Bluffton, Indiana.  In those days [late 1800's] Drug stores were more like Herbal Apothecaries than the Drug Stores we know today. It makes sense then, that Charles Deam would develop a keen interest in Botany [the study of plants].  Naturalist and Herbalist Sherrie Bryant will take you out and around the Forest Education Center to show you some of the medicinal trees and plants we have around us here. A short powerpoint presentation will alternate between Healing Plants and Medicinal Trees @ 11am and 2pm daily on Friday and Saturday. Sunday we'll be featuring a short film: From Pharmacy to Forestry - the story of Charles C. Deam - a renenactment. Charles Deam's birthday is August 30th.
