Event Description:

On Aug. 3,1952, Kankakee State Park was dedicated as Indiana’s 18th state park. Development was funded through the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937 (Pittman-Robertson Act), which uses an excise tax on hunting gear to pay for conservation efforts.The park was located in marshlands along the Kankakee River in Lake and Newton counties in northwest Indiana.
