Saw-whet Owl Banding Demonstrations, various nights until 11/19, Indiana Dunes State Park |
|
Event Description: Burn the midnight oil with the Indiana Audubon Society as they bring the ninth season of saw-whet owl banding to the Dunes. Visitors can learn about Indiana’s smallest owl in this up-close and personal experience.
Banding occurs Thursday - Sunday evenings beginning October 12th - November 19th. The program will start at 7pm or 6pm after Nov 4th. Visitors are invited to stay as long as they would like after the hour program to see if we catch an owl. There are no guarantees an owl will be caught.
Visitors to the state park may come to the park's nature center after sunset on Thursday through Sunday during the season to learn about the special program. Guests will have an opportunity to see a live owl up-close during the banding process.
Evening presentations are free, after paying the standard entrance gate fees.
This program is weather dependent. Visitors are advised to call ahead to confirm banding will take place on any public night
You can also join the owl banding text and email alert program for nightly status updates. Sign up for alerts at http://bit.do/owlbanding
Special behind the scenes nights are offered on October 28, 29, and November 5. Visit www.indianaaudubon.org/events to register for these events.
