Entry Description
Honoring our veterans, heroes

We would not be who we are today – as a people and a country – without the brave men and women who defend our most coveted freedoms, here and abroad. Yesterday, Americans across the nation recognized the selfless sacrifices our veterans make every day by attending ceremonies, memorials, and speeches. Hoosiers united in honoring those members of our armed forces who sacrifice everything to ensure the American way of life never tarnishes. They recognized their triumphs over evil; their accomplishments; and their heroism.

It is with the highest level of gratitude and sincerity that I thank our veterans for their selfless service and unmatched devotion to this great nation and what it represents; freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

After spending months on the campaign trail talking to and meeting with constituents, I find solace in the fact that we, as a country, return our focus to matters of greater importance than politics. We realize that we all have a duty to ourselves and our country to better the lives of those around us. We realize that we all inhabit the same world and restoring peace is essential for advancement and prosperity.

The founding principles of our country were forged by the steel and valor of our armed forces to secure God-given freedoms for every man, woman and child. Veterans Day is so much more than a day of reflection and observance. It highlights where we have been; where we are; and where we are going. When I think about all that has transpired in our nation’s history, all of the tribulations faced; it’s no wonder that our country’s resolve and fearless opposition to the tyrannies of evil remains a beacon of hope for all of mankind.

Our freedom and independence came at the highest cost. Let us never forget the course of our history or allow sacrifices made to go unappreciated. We must remember the price that was paid and the lives that were lost to protect the freedoms we cherish.

Not only on Veterans Day, but every day, please extend the utmost appreciation to those service men and women who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice so much on our behalf. They are fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, neighbors, friends and colleagues; all of which have answered the call to defend freedom. All of which deserve our respect, gratitude and praise.

Lastly, but most importantly, to our veterans: thank you for your unyielding sacrifices. God bless our veterans, God bless their families and God bless America.
