{INDOT} Lexington Avenue East of SR 19 in Elkhart Opens Today, October 9

ELKHART, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that Lexington Avenue east of SR 19/Nappanee Street in Elkhart reopens today, October 9.

Although Lexington Avenue is now open on both sides of SR 19, left turns from northbound or southbound SR 19 onto Lexington Avenue in either direction are still not permitted. Right turns onto Lexington Avenue in either direction are permitted.

Additionally, as this phase of construction continues, there are no left turn lanes on SR 19 between the St. Joseph River and Beardsley Avenue. Drivers should be aware that attempts at left turns from southbound and northbound SR 19 could cause significant backups and delays. They are encouraged to find alternate routes around the construction zone.

The construction of the east side of SR19 between the St. Joseph River and Beardsley Avenue is anticipated to be completed by the end of November 2012. The SR 19 reconstruction project consists of complete pavement replacement from Lusher Avenue to Beardsley Avenue to accommodate a 5-lane concrete roadway with a bi-directional turn lane. This will match the portions of SR 19 north of Beardsley Avenue and south of Lusher Avenue. The project is anticipated to be complete in late summer 2014.
