[DNR] Second gypsy moth treatment in Porter County completed
Start Date: 5/2/2012Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 5/2/2012
Entry Description
The second and final gypsy moth aerial Btk treatment for Porter County’s Cobbs Corner site was completed this morning. Cobbs Corner is the only gypsy moth Btk treatment for 2012.

A map of the treatment site and further information may be found at gypsymoth.IN.gov.

Btk (Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki) Foray 76B, a bacterium commonly found in the soil, was used. Btk kills gypsy moth caterpillars as they feed on tree leaves by disrupting their digestive systems.

Btk has been used for decades by organic gardeners and has an excellent safety record with people and animals.
