| [DNR] Gypsy moth treatments, meeting schedules adjusted |
|
| Start Date: | 1/20/2012 | |
| End Date: | 1/20/2012 | |
|
Entry Description
A drop in federal funding for gypsy moth treatments has resulted in the cancellation of all previously scheduled spring treatments of Kosciusko County. In Lake County, the funding change has caused cancellation of treatments in one of the three previously scheduled spring treatment sites.
As a result of the Kosciusko treatment cancellations, a public meeting about gypsy moth treatments that was previously scheduled for Feb. 2 in that county is also cancelled.
In Lake County, the two previously scheduled public meetings on gypsy moth treatments will be held as scheduled because two of the three scheduled treatment sites (known as “Briar Ridge 12” and “Oak Savannah 12”) will still take place. Only the Lake County treatment scheduled for the site known as “Indianapolis Boulevard 12” is cancelled. The meeting locations and sites for Lake County are the same as previously announced:
Tue. Feb. 7 @ 6:30 p.m. CST
Lake County Public Library
1001 West Lincoln Highway
Schererville, IN
Wed. Feb 8 @ 6:30 p.m. CST
Lake County Public Library
100 North Main Street
Hobart, IN
Other spring gypsy moth treatments scheduled for portions of Porter and Fulton counties, and the public meetings associated with them, will proceed as scheduled.
According to Phil Marshall, director of the DNR Division of Entomology & Plant Pathology, the DNR chose the sites eliminated based on their lesser relative need for treatment compared to the other sites scheduled for treatment. For more information, see gypsymoth.IN.gov. |
