[SOS] Hamilton County invited to free screening of fraud prevention documentary Panel of experts to help senior citizens avoid getting scammed
Start Date: 4/6/2018Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 4/6/2018
Entry Description

INDIANAPOLIS (April 6, 2018) — Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson invites Hamilton County senior citizens to a free fraud prevention event, featuring her $CAMMED: Investment Fraud Revealed documentary and a panel of experts, on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Noblesville Nazarene Church. $CAMMED is a 30-minute documentary presenting the stories of real investment fraud in Indiana.  The film allows viewers to experience these cases through the eyes of the Hoosier victims who lost their hard-earned savings, and hear from Secretary of State staff who worked to bring the fraudsters to justice.

The screening is free and open to the public. The Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County is hosting the event, and AARP Indiana is sponsoring a luncheon that follows the screening and panel discussion.  Attendees are asked to RSVP by April 20, 2018 by calling 317-674-8777.

Exhibit booths will be open prior to the screening. Immediately following the screening, a panel of experts will discuss the video and further strategies to avoid all types of fraud. The panel is comprised of representatives from the offices of the Indiana Secretary of State, Indiana Attorney General, AARP Indiana, the Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center, and Indiana Senior Medicare Patrol, among others.

$CAMMED highlights criminal cases in which fraudsters bilked Hoosiers of millions of dollars. The film shows how investors were scammed by deals that sounded too good to be true or by sharing an affinity with the perpetrator.  Viewers will hear how the scams unraveled, learn from past mistakes, and discover how to prevent future financial fraud through education and recognizing warning signs.
