Monticello man charged with securities fraud William Tully arrested for scamming victims for tens of thousands of dollars to pay personal loans and bills

Entry Description

INDIANAPOLIS (March 28, 2017) — William E. Tully of Monticello has been charged with selling unregistered securities and corrupt business influence. Tully, 71, was arrested after charges were filed in the White County Superior Court.

Tully initially preyed on one couple by making religious overtures.  Tully was aware that the couple were devout Christians and “made it very clear that he was a believer,” according to the victims, even arranging to meet them in a church office.  Tully was soliciting an investment in an online business billed as a “revolutionary diet system,” and was wired $25,000 from the couple.

In another instance, Tully approached an elderly woman in an assisted living facility.  Promoting the same nutrition website, he secured $15,000 from the woman, a majority of which went to pay personal loans and utility bills.  Tully was previously convicted of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, which he did not disclose to his victims at the time of solicitation.

“Our Securities Division personnel spent countless hours bringing this fraudster to justice,” said Secretary Lawson. “Because of their perseverance, William Tully will experience the consequences of his malicious actions.  It is cases like this that motivate me to continue educating Hoosiers on investment and securities fraud as we work to prevent these crimes in the future.

“I would also like to thank White County Prosecutor Robert Guy and his team for their assistance in this case.”

Tully is charged with one count of selling unregistered securities as a Class C felony and one count of Corrupt Business Influence as a Class C felony.
