[DCS] LaPorte Co. DCS Recruiting Foster Parents: Info Meeting in Michigan City Oct. 2
Start Date: 9/10/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 9/10/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (Sept. 10, 2013)—The LaPorte County office of the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) will have an informational meeting for prospective foster parents on Wednesday, Oct. 2 in Michigan City. The meeting will take place at St. John’s United Church of Christ. A free dinner will be offered to attendees beginning at 5:30 pm, followed by a presentation at 6:15 by two foster care specialists from the LaPorte County DCS office.

Foster parents provide a temporary, safe and stable environment for children going through a difficult time. “We’re always looking for adults with a strong desire to invest in the future,” said Michelle Goebel, director of the LaPorte County DCS office. “A willingness to step up and help a child in need is the most important prerequisite for becoming a foster parent. Prospective foster parents should also know they can be a home owner or rent their home, and they may or may not have children of their own. Foster parents can be stay at home parents, or they can work outside the home. We encourage anyone interested in finding out more about becoming a foster parent to attend this free meeting.”

St. John’s United Church of Christ is located at 101 Saint John Road in Michigan City. The foster care presentation is expected to last approximately one hour. The meeting is limited to 20 people and reservations for the free dinner are requested. Please RSVP by Sept. 30 to Sue Zolvinski, 219.878.6328.

There are more than 4,600 abused or neglected Hoosier children currently living in non-relative foster homes because it is unsafe for them to live in their own homes. In LaPorte County, 33 abused or neglected children live in foster homes.
