Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann Welcomes

City of Greencastle to the Indiana Main Street Program

Indianapolis - Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann announced that the City of Greencastle is joining the Indiana Main Street (IMS) Program. The IMS program encourages economic development, redevelopment and improvement to the downtown areas of Indiana’s cities and towns.

“Viable downtowns are the heart of our communities and crucial to our state's economy,” said Lt. Governor Ellspermann. “I’m pleased to welcome Greencastle to the Indiana Main Street Program. The program creates opportunities for revitalization and restoration of downtowns, as well as encourages a strong business climate.”

Greencastle will join more than 115 other Indiana Main Street Communities dedicated to the revitalization of their downtown areas.  The IMS is founded on a Four Point Approach to downtown development:  organization, design, promotion and economic restructuring. Each of these points represents an aspect of the downtown which is vital in the restoration efforts of the community.  The IMS is administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA).

Indiana Main Street Program Manager Shae Kmicikewycz stated, “We are happy to have Main Street Greencastle as part of the Indiana Main Street family.  The members of the community and City of Greencastle are very supportive of the organization’s revitalization efforts and understand the importance of a thriving downtown.  We are proud of Greencastle and welcome them to the Indiana Main Street Program.”

Main Street Greencastle invites community residents, business leaders, community leaders, and anyone interested in and passionate about downtown to an “Imagine Downtown” Forum on October 10th at 6:00pm in the Greencastle City Hall.  The meeting will be facilitated by Jill Curry, the West Central Community Liaison from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.  For more information on this meeting or how you can volunteer for the organization, contact Main Street Greencastle at mainstreetgc@gmail.com
