Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann Awards a

$40,000 Planning Grant to the City of Huntingburg

Indianapolis – Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann has awarded a $40,000 planning grant to the city of Huntingburg to fund a downtown revitalization plan through the state’s Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

“Planning grants are an important first step as communities consider the best way to attract new businesses,” said Lt. Governor Ellspermann.  “The city of Huntingburg continues its growth and revitalization, and we are pleased to provide this important funding for planning in the downtown area.  The area that the city has designated for the planning grant includes historic buildings such as Old Town Hall, 4th Street’s important retail district, favorite restaurants, and more.  With the appropriate planning tools, the city will be able to plan appropriately for future growth and attract even more businesses to beautiful Huntingburg.”

The planning grant for the city of Huntingburg will be used to evaluate the area from Geiger Street to Van Buren Street as well as Third Street to Fifth Street.

The majority of the funding comes from the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which has proven to be an effective tool for community-based planning and research initiatives. Huntingburg has committed a local match of $5,000.

The CDBG program is administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
