LANANE: Governor’s HIP dealing achieves bare minimum
Start Date: 9/3/2013 All Day
End Date: 9/3/2013
Entry Description

INDIANAPOLIS—State Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson) released the following statement regarding the governor’s announcement that the federal government has extended the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) waiver:

“To the 37,316 current Healthy Indiana Plan enrollees, today’s announcement comes as a relief. But what of the 10,000 enrollees the governor’s agreement kicks off HIP, or the nearly 53,000 left on waiting lists or the more than 500,000 Hoosiers without access to health care? To them, today’s announcement is nothing more than achieving the minimum.

“At a time when 25 other states, including most recently Republican-controlled Michigan, have moved forward, the administration remains committed to stalling the progress toward a healthier state.

“The cost of inaction is steep for Hoosier working families. By refusing to make federal health care reform work for Hoosiers, the administration is withholding an opportunity to make 30,000 new jobs and lower health care premiums a reality.

“Indiana’s citizens are still waiting while other states move ahead to reap the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.

“The benefits are clear. Just talking about making health care more accessible isn’t enough. Senate Democrats are committed to expanding access to health care in a way that fuels local economies and drives down costs for all Hoosiers.”

Sen. Lanane represents Indiana Senate District 25 includes the portions of Madison and Delaware counties, including the City of Muncie and the southeastern portion of the City of Anderson.
