Title:      DRAFT INDOT Construction Storm Water Certification

Course Intent:   Fundamentals of Erosion and Sediment Control using INDOT standards and expectations.

Intended audience:        INDOT contractor’s designated Erosion and Sediment Control Supervisor and INDOT personnel in charge of managing and inspecting the contractor for E&SC.

Why:     INDOT devoted a Task Force to evaluate how to improve the qualifications of staff responsible for managing and inspecting erosion and sediment control deliverables on construction projects.  As a result, a DRAFT INDOT Construction Storm Water Certification and Training was developed.

What do participants get out of attending the DRAFT certification training:  The draft version of this training will not provide a certification, however will provide the audience with the training for free, 6 PDH credits and a look at what the certification exam may look like.  Attendees will be able to take the finalized exam (not the training) at a later date free of charge.

What do participants get out of the certification when it is finalized:  Eventually, only those personnel that have earned this certification will be able to manage the storm water deliverables on INDOT construction contracts with waterway permits.

Participants will learn the following:

  • Basics of Erosion
  • State and Federal Regulations related to storm water (e.g. Rule 5)
  • Non-structural and structural Best Management Practices
  • Applicability on INDOT projects and INDOT Standards
  • Strategies to Manage Projects for Compliance

Description:           The training is delivered in two modules.  Module one focuses on the concepts of storm water management on linear road projects.  Module two identifies the INDOT standard Best Management Practices and other standards that define how storm water is to be managed on active contracts.  At the end of the second session, an open-book exam will be given.  Overall, the training and exam will last about 7 hours including breaks.

Important Note to Attendees:      Attendees will be required to bring a copy of the 2014 INDOT Standard Spec Book to class.  Participants will be provided with a copy of the presentation slides, an Ecology and Waterway Permitting Assignment Map and a copy of the DRAFT INDOT Storm Water Management Field Guide.
