[DNR] Conservation Officer recruitment event in Noblesville
Start Date: 8/24/2014Start Time: 12:30 PM
End Date: 8/24/2014
Entry Description
The date for the second recruiting event has been set for Sunday, August 24 at Noblesville High School in Hamilton County. During this event, we will be performing various physical fitness tests to prepare you for our hiring process. Being an Indiana Conservation Officer is a physically demanding job and we want to ensure that our candidates are capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position. It is not uncommon, for example, for our officers to hike several miles over difficult terrain while conducting foot patrols, while scouting for deer stands and while performing field checks of bank fishermen and hunters. Officers must also have sufficient swimming skills to perform swift water rescue operations, dive operations, and regular boat patrols of Indiana's waterways.

We will begin the event with the swimming portion of our testing. You must be able to swim 100 yards unassisted with no time limit (any stroke) and be able to tread water for 5 minutes. Please arrive at Noblesville High School no later than 12:45 p.m. We will be meeting in the east parking lot adjacent to the gymnasium. Noblesville High School is located just north of State Road 32/38 on Cumberland Road. Please bring appropriate swimming attire and goggles (recommended). There will be locker room facilities available for changing.

Following the swim we will be transitioning to the track for timed 300 meter and mile and a half runs. We will also be conducting push-ups, sit-ups, and a vertical jump assessment. These tests are designed to ensure applicants can meet the entrance and exit standards at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. These standards are posted on the academy's website at www.in.gov/ilea/. Please be sure to bring plenty of water and be prepared for hot weather. We will have one of our officers who is EMT certified at the event for safety reasons.

You will not be judged during this assessment. It is being offered in order to give you the opportunity to gauge your physical fitness level and to experience what it is like to take the test. Attendance is not mandatory, but attending will greatly improve your chances of being successful in this competitive process.

At the first event, several of you expressed concerns with being able to perform some of the physical fitness tests to standards due to injuries, recent surgeries, disabilities from auto accidents, etc... If there is any reason why you feel you cannot perform these tests please let me know ASAP. Also, if you are planning to attend the event please contact me by email or telephone to confirm you will be there so I can plan accordingly.

Once again, thank you again for your interest in becoming an Indiana Conservation Officer.
