[INDOT-West Central] Pavement Preservation Project Set to Begin on State Road 75

Entry Description

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 1, 2014

Pavement Preservation Project Set to Begin on State Road 75

Motorists should drive slowly and use caution in this area

BOONE COUNTIES, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces maintenance crews will begin a pavement preservation project in Boone County on State Road 75 (S.R. 75) on or after Monday, August 4, weather permitting.  S.R. 75 will be chip and sealed from State Road 32 to the south edge of Thorntown.

Traffic will be controlled by arrow boards and flagmen in the area they will be working.  Work on the roadway is scheduled to last through Thursday, August 7.  The work schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather.

The chip-seal process consists of distributing a liquid asphalt emulsion on the roadway and covering the liquid asphalt with crushed stone to provide a new wearing surface. Chip-sealing extends the life of a roadway by protecting it from moisture, ultra-violet degradation and any other exposures that could damage a roadway.  Crews then sweep off the excess stone and follow up with a fog sealing process.  The fog seal is applied on top of the chip-seal work and is a light application of asphalt material that can lock in loose stone and help with dust control.

Drivers should exercise extreme caution during the construction of these projects. Loose stone will be present on the roadway during the initial cure of the asphalt and can damage windshields and paint on vehicles following each other too closely. It is recommended when travelling on a recently chip-sealed road to slow down and allow additional space between vehicles.

INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, visit www.in.gov/indot. You can find traffic restriction information at www.trafficwise.IN.gov.  Contact the Crawfordsville District toll free at 1-888-WCINDOT.
