Entry Description

Spencer County: A Kentucky man was arrested on Friday after the Rockport City Police and the Indiana State Police conducted investigations into complaints from local women after they believed they had been drugged.

Preliminary investigation reveals that on August 10 a Spencer County woman met with Robert Chad Edwards, 40, Cloverport, KY after communicating with him on an online dating site. Edwards allegedly told the woman that he would cook dinner. Upon eating the meal that Edwards brought, the victim noticed an odd taste, her mouth began to burn, and she began to get drowsy.

On August 13 another Spencer County woman met with Edwards after communicating with him on an online dating site. Edwards again volunteered to bring dinner but the victim declined. Edwards did however bring her a drink and upon drinking it the victim noticed the drink tasted funny and she began to have a headache. Before leaving her home Edwards stole some personal items from the victim.

On Friday August 14, arrest warrants were issued for Edwards’ arrest. Indiana State Police and the Rockport City Police went to Cloverport KY to locate Edwards. With the help of the Cloverport Police Department Edwards was located and arrested. He was taken to the Breckinridge County Jail and waiting extradition back to Indiana.

“Fortunately neither victim was injured in these cases and thankfully they came forward with the evidence to stop this guy,” said Trooper Detective Rob Gardner.

Although online dating sites have helped many people find friends and mates they can also be avenue for people with ill intent. The Indiana State Police recommend that you never meet someone in person that you have only met online. However, if you feel that you must meet the person that you have met online follow these safety tips:
• Don’t give personal information i.e. home address, phone numbers
• Meet the person in a public place
• Do not invite people to your home
• Take a friend with you
• Do not leave food or drinks unattended
