Entry Description

Indianapolis – Today, the Countryside Industrial Park located in the town of Sheridan was declared Shovel-Ready Silver by Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann via the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA). The Shovel Ready Silver designation shows the business community that the 61 acre Countryside Industrial Park is ready for economic development.

As part of designating the site, Lt. Governor Ellspermann will be presenting a certificate to community leaders on Thursday, August 15 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. (EST) at the Countryside Industrial Park in Sheridan. This will give community leaders a chance to celebrate the certification of their new site and show appreciation to Duke Energy and WESCO for their assistance during the process.

"It’s always positive news when communities are ready to move forward with economic development opportunities," said Ellspermann. "I look forward to seeing the growth that takes place in the near future and encourage new businesses coming to Indiana to consider Sheridan as a place to grow their companies."

To be declared "Shovel-Ready" a site must have a base level of defined boundaries with a clear title, established price, demonstration of executive level local government support, defined utility capacity, and provided documentation such as Phase I environmental assessment, ALTA survey, and wetland delineation.

A Shovel-Ready Silver site will have current documentation, proper zoning, infrastructure to the property line as well as no environmental or wetland considerations.

"We are pleased that the Countryside Industrial Park is ready for new growth," said Dax Norton, executive director of OCRA. "Sheridan has incredible potential and it is our hope that new businesses will choose to locate here. Their new site is a great way for the town to build capacity."

"This certification is very beneficial as Sheridan pursues a competitive edge to advance economic development," said David Kinkead, president of the Sheridan Town Council.

The goal of the Shovel-Ready program is to expedite the business location process by making the sites more attractive to companies and site-selection consultants who are looking to locate or expand their business.

The OCRA led Shovel-Ready program also works closely with the state’s Fast Access Site Team (FAST), which is comprised of multiple state agencies, including Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC).
