Entry Description

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 5, 2013) — Area roads, bridges and highways will benefit from significant funding increases over the next two years, said State Sen. Rod Bray (R-Martinsville).

“Improvements to roads and bridges will provide safer conditions for those traveling in our community,” Bray said. “Strong infrastructure is also important for local businesses to remain competitive with other markets, which is why increasing road funding was a top priority for state lawmakers when writing the new Indiana budget.”

In total, local counties and municipalities are slated to receive the following allocations which represent an increase over current funding levels.

· Johnson County: $13,040,820 ($3,296,464 increase)
· Morgan County: $7,610,588 ($ 1,924,132 increase)
· Owen County: $4,372,296 ($ 1,105,546 increase)

During the 2013 legislative session, the General Assembly passed the fiscal year 2014-2015 state budget, which increased transportation funding by $210 million per year. This includes $100 million for local units each year.
