Entry Description

Delaware County – This morning around 8:20 a.m. Denise Kellam, age 48 of Middletown, was driving her 1997 Ford Explorer north on I-69 around the 234 mile marker when she lost control of the vehicle. According to witnesses, the vehicle swerved to the right then left into the cable barrier. The vehicle drove up onto the cable barrier, flipped over it, then came to rest on its side on the south bound side of the median.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the front seat passenger, Josiah Kellam, Denise Kellam’s 20 year old son, had grabbed the steering wheel pulling it to the right in an apparent attempt to scare the driver. Denise Kellam over corrected to the left, causing the vehicle to go out of control into the barrier cable in the median.

Transported from the scene to IU Health’s Ball Memorial Hospital was the driver Denise Kellam and her son Josiah Kellam, as well as back seat passengers David Webb age 17 of Anderson and Clayton Elgin age 19 of Middletown. All are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation at the scene continues, with traffic restrictions on the south bound side to occur as the vehicle is removed from that side of the median. Officers are working with the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office on possible charges in the incident.
