Entry Description

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 2, 2013) — Allen County roads, bridges and highways will benefit from a $8,475,638 funding increase over the next two years, said State Sen. Tom Wyss (R-Fort Wayne).

During the 2013 legislative session, the General Assembly passed the fiscal year 2014-2015 state budget, which increased transportation funding by $210 million per year. This includes $100 million for local units each year.

In total, the Allen County region is slated to receive an estimated $33,531,347 in road funding over the next two years, which represents an $8,475,638 increase from the current funding level. It will be appropriated among local government units as follows:

  • Allen County Government: $15,075,473
  • Fort Wayne: $16,679,690
  • Grabill: $69,233
  • Huntertown: $316,248
  • Leo-Cedarville: $236,890
  • Monroeville: $81,199
  • New Haven: $972,677
  • Woodburn: $99,937

“When businesses and families look for a place to settle, they often prioritize an easily accessible transportation system,” Wyss said. “For that reason, we must ensure that our roads are safe and reliable. With this new funding, we’ll be able to do that.”
