Entry Description

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 1, 2013) — Area roads, bridges and highways will benefit from significant funding increases over the next two years, said State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle).

During the 2013 legislative session, the General Assembly passed the fiscal year 2014-2015 state budget, which increased transportation funding by $210 million per year. This includes $100 million for local units each year.

In total, local counties and municipalities are slated to receive the following allocations, which represent an increase from current funding levels:

  • Adams County – $5,730,199 ($1,448,768 increase)
  • Blackford County – $2,882,545 ($728,790 increase)
  • Grant County – $9,359,254 ($2,366,047 increase)
  • Huntington County – $6,320,331 ($1,597,909 increase)
  • Jay County – $5,438,107 ($1,374,959 increase)
  • Wells County – $5,728,400 ($1,448,326 increase)

“Dependable roads and infrastructure are the building blocks of a solid community,” Holdman said. “Not only do they make residential travel possible, but they create vital pathways necessary for employers to conduct business, expand and hire. The funding allocated for our area will strengthen these aspects for years to come.”
