Entry Description
1945 - At 10:25 am, Navy pilot Wilbur Gwinn spotted survivors of the USS Indianapolis adrift in the ocean. Contrary to orders, he landed his plane on the surface and began picking up the men. Of the 880 who survived the sinking, only 321 came out of the water alive. The rest had died from exposure and shark attack.
