End Date: 7/10/2014
Entry Description

Indianapolis—Today Governor Mike Pence named four new deputy chiefs of staff in his executive office to better serve agencies and the public.

Danielle McGrath will join the Governor’s Office as Deputy Chief of Staff for Legislative Affairs to help coordinate and successfully pass the Governor’s Legislative Agenda, will lead coordination with agency legislative liaisons, and will manage the appointments of Boards and Commissions. McGrath currently serves as the Executive Director of External Affairs for the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), where she is the chief liaison for legislative issues and oversees a staff of 13 responsible for media relations, consumer affairs, information technology, and the agency’s budget.  Prior to joining the IURC, Danielle worked for a public relations and advertising agency. She graduated with honors from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and earned her master’s degree in journalism from Indiana University in Bloomington. Originally from northwest Indiana, she now resides in McCordsville with her husband Kyle and is active in a number of community and professional organizations.

John Hill will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff of Public Safety, overseeing all of the state’s public safety agencies. Hill is currently the Executive Director of the Department of Homeland Security. Hill has more than 35 years in public service at the federal and state levels.  He was a member of the Indiana State Police for twenty-nine years, working in both public safety and highway safety. Hill also served as the Field Enforcement Division Commander and was later asked to start the ISP’s new Motor Carrier Division, where he also served as its leader. In 2006, President Bush nominated Hill to serve as the Chief Safety Officer at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and he was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate.  In this role, he was responsible for improving commercial vehicle highway safety by finalizing several key safety regulations, improved performance by FMCSA staff and state enforcement agencies and careful coordination with the United States Congress on a variety of critical initiatives. Hill is a graduate of Taylor University where he obtained a B.A. in political science.  He also graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy.  He and his wife Pepper reside in Greenwood.

Sean Keefer will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff of Executive Branch Agencies.  In this role he will oversee the large majority of state agencies and will be responsible for managing operational issues, personnel hiring and contracting across all agencies, as well as Cabinet-level communications. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office as Legislative Director last year, Sean served as the Commissioner for the Department of Labor. Previously he served as the Chief of Staff at the Indiana State Department of Health under Governor Daniels, and he holds a Six Sigma Green Belt from Purdue University.

Ryan Streeter, currently the Senior Policy Director, has been named Deputy Chief of Staff of Policy and Strategy.  He will continue to develop major policy initiatives for the Governor, and in addition he will take on an increased role in developing strategy for Governor’s main policy agenda.

This new structure will be in place beginning next week.
