[DCS] DCS Appoints Karen Hayden-Sturgis Director in White County

MONTICELLO, Ind. (July 31, 2013)The Indiana Department of Child Services announced today Karen Hayden-Sturgis has been appointed local director of the White County office of DCS. In her new role, Karen will set goals and objectives for child welfare management, helping to ensure children are protected from abuse or neglect. In addition, she will oversee a team of seven, including family case managers, clerical staff and a supervisor. She will also handle general office operations. 


“We’re pleased to bring Karen onto our White County team,” said DCS Chief of Staff Doris Tolliver. “Her front-line job experience as a family case manager as well as her supervisory background is the perfect mix for helping families in her county.”


Born in Owensboro, Kentucky, Karen has lived in Indiana since she was five years old. In 1999 she joined the Clinton County office of DCS as a family case manager. She later transferred to the Tippecanoe office and was promoted to supervisor in 2010. A licensed social worker, Karen holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University at Kokomo and a master’s degree in social work from Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.


Karen began her new duties July 22.
