[ISP] New Palestine Man Charged with Manufacturing Destructive Device

New Palestine, IN- A New Palestine man has been arrested and faces a felony charge after a month long investigation by an Indiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Technician.

On July 11th, 2013 Indiana State Police Explosive Ordnance personnel responded with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department to 1554 West Furry Road, Fountaintown. A 911 caller reported explosions were occurring 2 to 3 times per week at that address and that one had just occurred. This is the same address that law enforcement had responded to on July 5th and found that a juvenile had injured his hand while constructing an explosive device.

During the course of the investigation EOD Technician Trooper Ben Cook determined that Michael Niemier, 20, of New Palestine had constructed an explosive device consisting of sparklers and PVC pipe and detonated it in a field behind the residence at 1554 West Furry Road, Fountaintown.

Yesterday, Trooper Cook arrested Niemier at his residence without incident. He is charged with one count of “Manufacturing, Transporting and Detonating a Destruct Device, a Class C Felony.

Niemier was transported to the Hancock County Jail. He is scheduled for an initial hearing on July 16th at 1:30 p.m.
