[ISP] Two Arrested in New Castle for Meth
Start Date: 7/16/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 7/16/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

New Castle – Last night (7/15) around 8 p.m. a joint investigation between the Pendleton District Meth Suppression Squad and the Henry County Drug Task Force culminated in a search warrant being served on a home at 2206 “N” Ave. As a result of that warrant a meth lab was discovered and a man and woman were lodged on felony charges.

Arrested were Tommy Hummel, age 44, and Sandra Benematti, age 40, both charged with Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine, Class “B” Felony, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Class “D” Felony. In addition Hummel was charged with Invasion of Privacy, Class “D” Felony, as Benematti had at some point in the past placed a protective order against him.

The District 51 Meth Suppression Squad and Henry County Drug Task Force were assisted by the New Castle Police Department, Henry County Swat and the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office.

Signs to look for Meth manufacturing are a strong ammonia or solvent smell like an auto body shop. Look for rubber tubing, ether or camp fuel cans, plastic bottles with white residue, Pseudoephedrine packages, lithium battery casings, and propane tanks with a blue or green discoloration around the valve.

Often times Meth Labs are found as a result of an anonymous tip from a neighbor or friend. Anyone with information about illegal drug use may call the Pendleton Post at 1-800-527-4752, or the Indiana State Police Drug Tip Line at 1-800-453-4756. Tips can be made and kept anonymous. The Indiana Meth Investigation System or IMIS, can also take tips on meth labs. Just go to and click on the “Report Suspected Meth Activity” Link.
