Entry Description
Light up the sky this 4th of July

The 4th of July is a wonderful time to celebrate what our Founding Fathers fought valiantly for; the ability to shape our own lives free from government. The fight for independence came from the desire to build a new kind of government that worked for its citizens, providing us with the ability to create our own American Dream.
That is the theme of the Noblesville Fireworks Festival this year - American Dream in Noblesville.  I have loved being a part of the Festival Committee since its beginning in 1995 when fireworks on July 4th was brought back to our community.  We have a great committee who works very hard but also knows how to have fun along the way.
The Fireworks Festival starts with a parade at 5p.m. around the downtown area and then it is off to the high school. How can you pass up the promise of live music, festival food, fun activities for the kids and of course a huge fireworks display? The band “The Impalas” will provide the live music. “The Impalas” played for the Governor's Inaugural Ball in January, they are great!  A new treat this year is the K9 Crew Trick Dog Show, finalists on the TV show “America's Got Talent”. If you want any further info on this great event you can go to

No doubt there are plenty of ways to celebrate the Founding Father’s Declaration of Independence this 4th of July. It might be grilling some of your favorite foods with your family and friends while watching fireworks light up the sky, or choosing any of the celebrations around the county.
Westfield Rocks on the 4th is at Asa Park.   This fun event is the single largest community gathering for Westfield, and it gets better and better each year. This year have a blast checking out the car show and watching your kids enjoy all the new activities including live entertainment and a rock climbing wall!  The main entertainment will feature two great local artists – “Dave and Rae Band” and “Stella Luna and The Satellites”.
When the 4th is over you still have more great events to enjoy throughout the weekend, such as the Lights Over Morse Lake Festival I always enjoy spending an evening listening to a band that plays plenty of oldies but goodies, which is why I am looking forward to checking out the featured band this year, “The Flying Toasters”.  I have heard them before and they do an excellent job playing hit songs from the 70’s to today. The event will be on Friday, July 5 and begins at 8:30 and ends at 10:30, with the opening act starting at 7:00.
I hope to see you at one of these great events around our community. Have a wonderful holiday, leave the fireworks to the professional, but if you choose to do your own show make sure to exercise firework safety. Remember to be considerate of your neighbors and their property while you are lighting up the sky!

My guest column also appears in the Times of Noblesville.
