Entry Description
INDIANAPOLIS (July 3, 2013) – The Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 SHRAB Hoosier History Grants. This year, the Indiana SHRAB received applications for projects totaling in excess of $200,000. As a result of reduced funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, a division of the National Archives, Indiana has been provided $17,500 for the grant program.
The following projects are fully funded:
  • Huntington County Clerk – Scanning of microfilm and marriage records, 1958-2001 & 2008-2010. Grant amount: $5,000
  • Monroe County Historical Society – Digitization of county deed books, 1817-1866. Grant Amount: $4,480
  • Shelby County Clerk – Inventory and preparation of court records for digitization. Grant Amount: $5,000
Many applicants requested assistance with the organization of records, eliminating past-retention items, and training for local records programs. The SHRAB provided the remaining grant funds to the Commission on Public Records. This funding will be used for travel, allowing the Commission to offer training and consulting to local governments.

About the Indiana SHRAB:
In February of 2006, Governor Mitch Daniels created the Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board, or SHRAB. Charged with being the central advisory body for historical records planning and preservation in Indiana, the SHRAB works with the Commission on Public Records and repositories throughout the state to accomplish its task. On his first day in office, Governor Mike Pence issued Executive Order 13-13, ensuring the continuation of the Indiana SHRAB. The SHRAB is supported by an annual grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. For more information about the SHRAB and the Hoosier History Grants, please visit or email
