[INDOT] Hancock County: I-70 Traffic Switch
Start Date: 7/2/2013Start Time: 5:00 PM
End Date: 7/3/2013End Time: 1:00 AM
Entry Description

GREENFIELD, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to alter the traffic pattern on Interstate 70 this evening (JULY 2) just east of Mt. Comfort Road in Hancock County, weather permitting.

Traffic in the outside lane (right lane)—including ALL trucks—will shift 12 feet to the inside lane on the south side of the roadway (the eastbound left lane) at the 97.0 mile marker.  Motorists will be routed back to the outside eastbound lane at the 100.8 mile marker.

This change completes a phased shift in eastbound and westbound traffic needed for reconstruction of a 3½ mile-section of I-70’s eastbound right lane at this location.

A traffic switch in mid-June routed drivers traveling the inside lane on the south side of I-70 (eastbound left lane) across the median onto the inside lane on the north side.  At that time, westbound traffic was shifted on the north side to the outside lane (right lane) and to a temporary lane located along the outside shoulder.

Milestone is the state’s contractor for this $15.2 million 8.5-mile Major Moves reconstruction project on I-70 between Mt. Comfort Road and State Road 9.  The contract calls for replacing concrete pavement in eastbound lanes—with repairs and resurfacing in the eastbound asphalt section.  Westbound I-70’s concrete section is being extensively patched—with the asphalt section repaired and resurfaced.  The bridge at Sugar Creek will be widened.  The westbound on-ramp at S.R. 9 will be lengthened.

Guardrail Repairs Tonight

The right lane of westbound I-70 is scheduled to close tonight at 9 o’clock between mile markers 97.5 and 97.3 while crews repair a damaged guard rail section.  Rain will postpone this work until after the Fourth of July weekend.
