Entry Description

Senator to serve on five interim study committees, commissions

INDIANAPOLIS—State Senator Lonnie M. Randolph (D-East Chicago) has been appointed to serve on the Interim Study Committee on Common Core Educational Standards this legislative interim. The committee will take up whether the state will continue to roll out national Common Core standards. The committee is charged with comparing the state’s current standards to Common Core and considering the best practices in developing and adopting the Common Core standards.

Another interim committee to which Sen. Randolph has been assigned is the Regulatory Flexibility Committee. The committee will study current telephone and video services around the state to determine changes in competition and pricing in the telecommunications industry.

Sen. Randolph has also been appointed to the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations, Commission on Courts and the Tourism Council.

These appointments were made by the Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-Fort Wayne) upon recommendation of Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson).

The Indiana General Assembly annually convenes interim study committees and permanent commissions to conduct in-depth research and analysis of issues affecting the state. Recommendations from these committees are often the basis for future legislation. More information about committee topics, schedules and agendas is available online at

Sen. Randolph represents Indiana Senate District 2 which encompasses portions of Lake County, including the communities of East Chicago, Whiting, and portions of Gary, Griffith, Hammond, Hobart and Merrillville.
