[DNR] Step back in time at Paynetown SRA Heritage Days, July 12-14
Start Date: 7/1/2013 All Day
End Date: 7/1/2013
Entry Description
Paynetown State Recreation Area at Monroe Lake will offer a glimpse into the past, July 12 through 14, during the lake’s annual Heritage Days.

Heritage Days highlights history between 1745 and the 1890s. The centerpiece is the Heritage Village encampment, where re-enactors portray early settlers. Visitors can wander through the encampment as it is being set up on Friday, July 12, from 2 to 7 p.m.

On Saturday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., there will be periodic music demonstrations, tomahawk throwing and communal meals.

The final chance to see the encampment is on Sunday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Monroe Lake also will have activities and programs scheduled for each day. Visitors can make a leather carrying pouch and a pioneer toy on Friday, play pioneer games on Saturday, and churn butter and make a “winged fancy” on Sunday. A heritage-themed craft is also available at the Activity Center each day from 1 to 5 p.m.

For more information, visit dnr.IN.gov/parklake/2954.htm or call (812) 837-9967 or email jvance@dnr.IN.gov.

Heritage Days programs and activities are free after the standard entrance fee of $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle.

Monroe Lake (stateparks.IN.gov/2954.htm) is at 4850 South State Road 446, Bloomington, 47401.
