[multiple] [s45] Sen. Jim Smith Responds to Sellersburg Standoff
Start Date: 6/25/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 6/25/2013
Entry Description
Sen. Jim Smith (R-Charlestown) made the following statement today in regard to the shooting of local law enforcement officer, Chris Proctor, and death of a police dog during yesterday’s standoff in Sellersburg.

STATEHOUSE (June 25, 2013)
– “Yesterday’s tragic events remind us of the true dedication and sacrifice our law enforcement officers demonstrate every day to keep our neighborhoods safe. My sincere thanks goes out to all of the Sellersburg, Clark County, Charlestown, Louisville and state police officers – especially Clark County Deputy Chris Proctor – who worked together to contain this threat and protect Sellersburg residents.

“I wish Deputy Proctor a full and fast recovery from the gunshot wound he incurred during the standoff. Our community is incredibly grateful for your service.

“It is heartbreaking to know this incident also resulted in the death of Indiana State Police dog, Kilo. Though it does not take effect until July 1, I’m glad the General Assembly passed legislation this year strengthening the penalties for injuring or killing a law enforcement animal in the future.”
