[r82] Rep. Ober appointed to national labor committee
Start Date: 6/25/2013 All Day
End Date: 6/25/2013
Entry Description

STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) appointed State Representative David Ober (R-Albion) to serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Labor and Economic Development Committee (LEDC). Appointed to serve a two-year term, Rep. Ober will coordinate with other members of the LEDC to find innovative solutions to address state and federal labor and employment public policy issues.

“I am honored to receive this appointment to the Labor and Economic Development Committee, and I look forward to entering in a multi-state discussion to address state and federal labor issues,” said Rep. Ober. “Indiana continues to outpace the nation in private sector job growth because of the strength of the Hoosier workforce and the economic development and labor policies put in place by the Legislature. As we look ahead, this committee will help develop solutions in addressing an aging labor workforce and making sure employees have the skills to thrive in today’s globally dynamic marketplace.”

Comprised of 10 standing committees meeting triennially, the NCSL works to develop official policy directives by serving as a venue for idea sharing on fresh legislation. The meetings often feature congressional guest speakers and experts on state issues. The committees serve as an educational tool for Congress and federal agencies to learn about state concerns related to federal public policy.

The LEDC members will discuss labor and employment issues and work to balance the role between the state and federal system. Some of the topics include: workforce and economic development, international trade and cultural affairs.

“With over 9,000 jobs added to the private sector in May, the Department of Revenue recently announced that Indiana’s private sector employment is now at pre-recession levels, not seen since July 2008,” said Rep. Ober. “Although this is an excellent announcement, we must continue to create an environment to grow the private sector which can be done through pro-jobs legislation. With state and federal leaders working together to address labor and employment issues, I know we can achieve this and make considerable strides, not only for Indiana but for the nation as well.”
