Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (June 20, 2013) — Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) has re-appointed State Sen. Luke Kenley (R-Noblesville) as a member of the Budget Committee.

As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Kenley served a pivotal role in crafting the fiscal year 2014-2015 state budget. The Budget Committee will now continue that work by overseeing the budget’s implementation.

“We were able to pass a successful budget this session, which I believe all Hoosiers can be proud of,” Kenley said. “I believe our budget prepares Indiana for future success, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Budget Committee to make sure we implement it effectively.”

In addition, Kenley was appointed to serve on the following summer study committees:

Central Indiana Transit Study Committee
Simplified State Sales Tax Administration Delegates
Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority
Commission on Education

Each summer and fall — when Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session — lawmakers are assigned to interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.

“Study committees are an essential part of Indiana’s legislative process,” Long said. “Many of the issues that lawmakers consider during the summer and fall months are the foundation for legislation that will come before the General Assembly in the upcoming session.”

Study committee topics are assigned by the Legislative Council, comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the House of Representatives and eight from the Senate.
