Entry Description

STATEHOUSE (June 19, 2013) —Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) has re-appointed State Sen. Tom Wyss (R-Fort Wayne) as a member of the Counterterrorism and Security Council and the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation.

“With recent national events ranging from the tragedy in Boston to the public revelation of NSA data collections, our citizens deserve thorough examination of issues surrounding counterterrorism and security,” Wyss said. “The insights gleaned from these summer study committees will inform our legislative decisions in the coming year.”

In addition, Wyss was appointed to serve on the Motorsports Commission and re-appointed to serve on the following committees:

  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission
  • Integrated Public Safety Commission
  • Special Group Recognition License Plate Commission, chair
  • Joint Study Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Assessment and Solutions

Each summer and fall — when Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session — lawmakers are assigned to interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.

“Study committees are an essential part of Indiana’s legislative process,” Long said. “Many of the issues that lawmakers consider during the summer and fall months are the foundation for legislation that will come before the General Assembly in the upcoming session.”

Study committee topics are assigned by the Legislative Council, comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the House of Representatives and eight from the Senate.
