[s14] KRUSE REPORT: Take Advantage of Nearby Attractions This Summer
Start Date: 6/18/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 6/18/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description
As the temperatures continue to heat up, Hoosiers across the state begin traveling to their summer destinations. As you may know, many attractions lie within the state’s borders, and several weekend or day-long escapes can even be found here in Northern Indiana. Tourism not only creates and sustains jobs in our area; it brings in millions of dollars in revenue. As you’re planning a trip this summer, I encourage you to consider an Indiana destination.

The most popular local attractions for families are the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and Science Central. If you haven’t taken your family to either of these locations, I highly encourage it. These are great ways to get your children excited about nature and science – which can translate to long-term interests and something they may incorporate into their futures.

To quench their thirst for competition, sports fans have many options in Northeast Indiana. In particular, the Fort Wayne Tin Caps play at one of the best minor league fields in the country, Parkview Field.

Fort Wayne’s Three Rivers Festival is also a great family attraction every summer. The downtown event features concerts, raft races, arts & crafts and more. The festival will take place from July 13 to July 20 this year.

Just a short drive north of Fort Wayne, DeKalb County also has many great options. There are nine museums in DeKalb County that highlight the area’s nickname: “Hub of Transportation History.” The area also has an outdoor theater which offers free admission and showcases musical acts like the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra.

It excites me that Northeast Indiana offers so many tourism hot sports for the state and country to enjoy. I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities that lie right in your backyard and embrace all that Fort Wayne and Auburn have to offer.
