Patrons at participating libraries can borrow free eBook through June 1, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS (May 14, 2013) – Patrons of Indiana libraries are invited to take part in a global library book club by reading master storyteller Michael Malone's eBook, The Four Corners of the Sky, during the first international Big Library Read from May 15 through June 1, 2013. The Four Corners of the Sky is master storyteller Michael Malone’s novel of love, secrets, and the mysterious bonds of families. Malone brings characters to life as only he can, exploring the questions that defy easy answers.

“I'm thrilled to present my latest book, The Four Corners of the Sky, to you and millions of other library members through this unique global ebook event,” said Malone in a letter to participating libraries. “I am passionate in my commitment to public libraries. They are the guardians of both our knowledge and our art, and have always been champions of the faith that reading enlarges our humanity. Thanks to programs like Overdrive, we now have access to the best of world literature in practical, easy-to-use digital formats. That possibility is tremendously exciting to me.”

Beginning on May 15th, patrons of hundreds of participating Indiana libraries can download The Four Corners of the Sky in Kindle, EPUB, PDF formats via their library’s OverDrive eBook catalogue. Notable libraries participating in the The Big Library Read include The Indianapolis Public Library and the eIndiana Digital Consortium, which consists of 78 Evergreen Indiana libraries. Patrons will have unlimited access (no holds or waiting lists) to the selected title throughout the duration the pilot program.

Patrons only need a valid library card and an electronic device (personal computer, tablet, Smartphone, eReader, etc.) connected online to participate. In an effort to promote a global community of readers, patrons are encouraged join the conversation on Twitter at #BigLibraryRead and “Like” Michael Malone on Facebook.

Big Library Read is a pilot program in which libraries worldwide offer a single eBook to their patrons. In addition to creating a global “library book club,” Big Library Read is designed to demonstrate the positive exposure and sales influence library eBook catalogs provide to authors and publishers. It will spotlight one title for a set time period for library patrons around the world to read simultaneously. The program is sponsored by OverDrive, a global distributor of eBooks and audiobooks, with initial support and participation from Sourcebooks, Inc., a leading US independent publisher.
